General Information

The Piedmont Governor's School for Mathematics, Science and Technology (PGSMST) is a half-day Academic Year Governor's School program. PGSMST serves four school divisions at two sites. Students from Danville City and Pittsylvania County students attend classes at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in Danville, VA and students from Henry County and Martinsville City attend classes at New College Institute (NCI) in Martinsville, VA. Students attend the sites in the mornings to take classes in mathematics, science, research, and English (IALR site only) and return to their base high schools in the afternoons to take courses in social studies, language arts, and electives and to participate in extracurricular activities. PGSMST has been serving gifted and high-achieving students since 2002.
Approximately 145 students attend from nine high schools in the four school divisions served. School divisions provide transportation for students to and from PGSMST. Students are in classes from 7:45 am to 11:00 am.
PGSMST has eight full-time faculty members and two part-time faculty members, a Director, an Administrative Assistant, and a part-time Technology Coordinator. All courses at PGSMST are dual-enrolled through either Danville Community College or Patrick Henry Community College.
