General Information

The Southwest Virginia Governor's School (SWVGS) is a shared-time Academic Year Governor's School program; students attend the Governor's School in the morning to take math, science, technology, research, study skills, and career education classes and return to their home high schools for afternoon courses in languages arts, social studies, and extracurricular activities. SWVGS has served gifted and high-achieving students since 1990.

Approximately 140 students attend from fifteen different high schools from eight school divisions across Southwest Virginia. School divisions provide transportation for students to and from SWVGS. Students take classes on two staggering schedules from 7:10-9:50 or 8:05 to 10:45.

SWVGS has nine faculty members who each teach classes, including the Director, Assistant Director, Network Administrator, and Guidance Counselor. All courses at SWVGS are dual-enrolled through either New River Community College or Radford University.
