Welcome to the Central Virginia Governor's School for Science & Technology! The Central Virginia Governor's School for Science and Technology (CVGS) was first opened in 1985 as one of the five original academic-year Governor's Schools. Our mission is to develop leaders who possess the research and technical skills, the global perspective, and the vision needed to address the challenges of a rapidly changing society. The curriculum is designed to provide a challenging academic program which enables students to develop independent learning strategies and teamwork skills.

  • Five school divisions send at total of about 60 juniors and 60 seniors to CVGS from ten different high schools.
  • CVGS class begin at 7:30 a.m. and end at 11:15 - students return to their home schools for afternoon classes and extracurricular activities.
  • Governor's School classes are Grade Point Average-weighted courses for home school transcripts.
  • Dual-enrollment classes are taught by CVGS faculty with college credit granted through Central Virginia Community College. There are six faculty members, including the director and partnership coordinator, as well as an administrative assistant and a custodian.
