Unique Program & Traditions

The Governor's School conducts a local science and engineering fair annually and has participated in other competitions including the Western Virginia Regional Science Fair, the Autonomous Robotics Competition, and the Team America Rocketry Challenge. Students also participate in a variety of local programs and events. Governor's School students have the opportunity to pursue an independent study project under the direction of DSLCC faculty. Students also may apply to pursue a short internship to experience the applications of science, mathematics, and technology in area businesses, industries, governmental agencies, health care organizations, and universities. The Governor's School has a variety of traditional activities for students and families that begin with a formal public reception on the DSLCC campus in August and end with a formal scholar recognition banquet in the Southern Virginia University Ballroom in May.
