Emphasis on Content, Connections, & Careers at Academic Year Governor's Schools

Governor's Schools lead students to know more than isolated facts. AYGS students understand why specific ideas are significant and in which contexts they can be applied. Students learn to synthesize knowledge, which facilities connections to familiar topics, increases retention, and enables use of knowledge in new and different fields.

Integration of curriculum engages students in challenging coursework. AYGS teachers lead students to create multiple content connections and to practice skills in many fields of study to facilitate concept mastery supporting greater future academic endeavors.

Governor's Schools lead students to assess and develop their individual motivations, skills and interests. They also help students to understand the knowledge and qualifications required for advanced positions and professional occupations so that they can make appropriate decisions, set aspirational goals, and plan.
